September 28th           Reepham     0    Hethersett     2

Hethersett travelled to Reepham for the first round of the John Savage Cup. Both teams started well seeing some good quality football played, no real chances were created in the first half leaving both keepers with very little to do. Coming in 0 - 0 at half time was a fair result.
After a good positive team talk at half time Hethersett were well up for taking the result in the second half, the team started well playing some good passing football and creating chances. Reepham also raised their game and applied some good pressure of which the back four soaked up well and played out turning the attacks round. The first goal came mid way through the half when Andy smith gathered up a loose ball then turn his man and took full advantage of the Reepham keeper who was off his line and lobbed him for a well placed finish. Hethersett then seem to step up another gear and applied pressure with some very positive football, the second goal came from a well weighted through pass for Sam brooks to run on to and take past the keeper to slot home. Very well played all the Hethersett lads a deserved victory. MOM Luke Giles.

TEAM: Harley Hammill, Freddie Raven, Lewis Rodgers, Luke Giles, James Youngs, Tom Bird, Andy Smith, Josh Allsopp, Sam Brooks, Janie Crowe, Sam Bird, Nathan Cooper, Chris Willimott, Robbie Lyon

October 19th       Drayton      1       Hethersett     1

Hethersett dominated the first half with Sam Bird scoring from close range. In the second half Drayton exerted more pressure and forced an equaliser with 12 minutes remaining. Hethersett held on for a well deserved draw.

November 2nd              Harling       1     Hethersett   2

November 9th                 Hethersett     3   Old Catton     1

Hethersett were forced to play defender James Youngs in goal in place of the injured Harley Hammill. Hethersett took the lead and were denied a second by a harsh offside decision. Catton equalised and were then awarded a penalty which Youngs brilliantly saved. After the break Hethersett played some very good football. Midfielder Nathan Cooper added two more to his first half goal to complete his first ever hat-trick. Hethersett missed a number of other chances but had done enough to win a good spirited game.

TEAM: James Youngs, Freddie Raven, Lewis Rodgers, Sam Bird, Josh Allsopp, Tom Bird, Andy Smith, Nathan Cooper, Sam Brooks, Jamie Crowe, Chris Willimott, Matthew Lemmon, Darrell Wigger, Robbie Lyon

November 30th            Hethersett     0    Scole    2

December 7th                Hethersett      4    Dereham    2

Hethersett dominated the early play on a hard pitch and Sam Brooks gave them the lead. A Tom Bird header and a superb 20 yard shot from Andy Smith gave Hethersett a 3-0 lead at half-time. After the break Dereham pulled a goal back before Brooks made it 4-2.

January 18th                 Old Catton        3     Hethersett     2

Hethersett found it difficult to adapt to a small and narrow pitch. Hethersett conceded two poor goals and lost their keeper for a time through injury.  They then fell further behind. They then hit back with two goals and went in search of an equaliser only to concede a penalty which was missed.

TEAM: Harley Hammill, Freddie Raven, Lewis Rodgers, Tom Bird, James Youngs, Josh Allsopp, Jamie Crowe, Luke Giles, Josh Brooks, Andy Smith, Chris Willimott, Sam Bird, Nathan Cooper, Martin Pullin

February 1st                      Hethersett      1     Drayton     5

The first half was well contested with Drayton scoring the only goal. The second half was also close with Sam Brooks scoring a fine equaliser. Drayton took the lead despite claims that the Hethersett 'keeper was fouled. Smith was sent off for foul and abusive language and Drayton took control.

TEAM: Harley Hammill, Nathan Cooper, Lewis Rodgers, Josh Allsopp, James Youngs, Tom Bird, Andy Smith, Sam Bird, Sam Brooks, Jamie Crowe, Darrell Wigger, Matthew Lemmon

February 15th          Fakenham       5     Hethersett     1

This game was a great experience for Hethersett, playing on Fakenham Town's first team pitch. Hethersett were under pressure in the first half but still managed to play some good football. Hethersett then fell behind to two Fakenham goals and two further goals at the start of the second half killed the game off. Hetherset had a good spell which resulted in Robbie Lyon scoring his first goal for the club. The home side scored another late goal.

March 1st               Dereham         3      Hethersett    1

Hethersett conceded a goal after just three minutes before equalising 10 minutes later through Sam Brooks. Hethersett went behind again late in the second half. Hethersett played the better passing football and had more possession but Dereham took their chances and Hethersett squandered theirs.

TEAM: Harvey Hamill, Freddie Raven, Lewis Rodgers, Tom Bird, James Youngs, Josh Allsopp, Jamie Crowe, Luke Giles, Sam Brooks, Andy Smith, Sam Bird, Robbie Lyon, Matthew Lemmon, Martin Pullin.

March 15th             Hethersett    2      Thorpe    3

Neither team dominated this game. Hammill saved a penalty magnificently. Thorpe took the lead before Sam Brooks equalised. James Youngs gave Hethersett the lead. They held this for some time until Thorpe equalised with a long range effort. Thorpe won the match when a long free kick skimmed off a defender's head and into the net.

March 22nd                  Hethersett        1   East Harling      2

Harling began the stronger and soon established a two goal lead. Hethersett came back into the game in the second half and Jamie Crowe broke his goalscoring drought with a shot from an acute angle. Both sides had spells of pressure but Hethersett failed to score again Harley Hamill made a couple of outstanding saves in the Hethersett goal. Josh Allsopp and Luke Giles were also outstanding for Hethersett.

March 29th                   Hethersett       6          Wymondham    1

Hethersett started on the attack and Andy Smith and Darryl Wigger gave them an early two goal lead followed by another goal from top scorer Sam Brooks. The visitors score just before the break after a rare error from the Hethersett 'keeper. Wymondham puy on some second half pressure but Hethersett weathered the storm and further goals from Brooks and Tom Bird saw them on top again. Freddie Raven added a late penalty. It was a fine local derby played in excellent spirit.

April 5th                     Thorpe           2             Hethersett        4

Hethersett travelled to Thorpe for their last game of the current season and also in youth football.

Hethersett got off to a slow start which allowed Thorpe to take the lead playing some good moving football. Hethersett responded well and got the equaliser with a well met header from Tom Bird. This lifted the spirits of the boys and it wasn't long before Josh Alsopp went on one of his trademark runs from deep inside his own half to finish well and put Hethersett 2-1 up.

Thorpe took full advantage of some poor defending and equalised just before half time. Hethersett came out in the second half playing some nice passing football and it wasn't long before Josh was off again with another 60+ yard run to slot past the keeper and put Hethersett back in front.

Both teams continued to battle well playing some very good football with chances at both ends. With only 10 minutes left the ball was played back towards the Hethersett defence being picked up by Josh and he was off again with a one two and a trade mark run to beat the keeper to complete his hat-trick, not bad for a centre back. Hethersett played the game out and finished 4-2 winners.

The u16s are a credit to the club and I hope to see them continue and filter into the men's teams next season.
