TEAMS/REPORTS

Sept 6th       Costessey     10     Hethersett    0

Hethersett started with a bare 11 and then lost Janis Reitjas with an injury. They battled hard in the first half but were 3-0 down at half-time. Poor defending, particularly from corners, saw Costessey run in seven more in the second half.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Daniel Field, Liam Finch, Alfie Smith, Janis Reintjes, Stuart Dix, Josh Wilcox, Adam Burton, Henry Allanson

Sept 13th    Hethersett     0    Spixworth    9

With a number of players unavailable & one sick today we were only able to field 10 players. The team did compete well in the first half but some poor goalkeeping did not help our cause and we were 3 down midway. The team were unable to keep a full Spixworth team at bay who ran out deserving winners.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Daniel Field, Liam Finch, Alfie Smith, Janis Reintjes, Adam Burton, Alex Richardson, Ben Annis

Sept 20th    Hethersett     1    Watton   0

For the first time this season we were able to field a virtually full squad. This made all the difference as it was extremely warm and the rolling sub system was really beneficial. The game was hard fought by both teams. 1st half Hethersett had an early penalty but unfortunately this was blasted wide. After that both teams had chances but these weren't converted. HT 0-0. 2nd half inevitably was a more open affair, with both teams creating chances. it was an unfortunate miss-kick by the Watton keeper that let Josh in to slot the ball into an empty net for the only goal of the game.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Daniel Field, Liam Finch, Alfie Smith, Janis Reintjes, Adam Burton, Alex Richardson, Ben Annis, Josh Wilcox, Stuart Dix, Joseph Nicholson

October 4th        Diss   6     Hethersett    0

We move from delight to despair in the space of 1 week! From 13 players to a mere 10 due to injury, sickness and unavailability. A sense of frustration can creep in but the 10 players today played magnificently against a full squad Diss team. Stoic defending and great goalkeeping made it an entertaining game. Perhaps our weakness was in midfield where we never really won enough of the 1 to 1 battles. 3 goals in each half condemned the team to defeat. If only we could muster 13 each week we really would play to our potential… fingers crossed for next week!!

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Daniel Field, Liam Finch, Alfie Smith, Janis Reintjes, Joshua Wilcox, Alex Richardson, Ben Annis

October 11th        Wymondham      2    Hethersett   3

Another close encounter! Hethersett didn't start with their recent discipline and determination and could have conceded 2 or 3 goals within the first 10 minutes. Excellent goalkeeping kept them in it but eventually the Hethersett net bulged and deservedly so. Nevertheless the team started to make in roads and created a few chances; this led to an unlkely equaliser through Stuart. HT 1-1. 2nd half Hethersett played with better discipline and resolve and created further chances, one being converted (1-2 to Hethersett). the boys will be sorely disappointed as lack of concentration allowed Wymondham back in late on including a 3rd winning goal. A harsh lesson indeed.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Like House, Daniel Field, Liam Finch, Alfie Smith, Janis Reintjes, Adam Burton, Alex Richardson, Ben Annis, Henry Allanson, Joseph Nicholson, Stuart Dix

October 18th        Hethersett      2     Norman   5

Unfortunately, this became a rather bad tempered game that overshadowed the opportunity for good football. With only 11 players Hethersett were set up with 5 in midfield and just Alfie as the forward. In principle this should have allowed forages from various midfield players. However, the players were ill disciplined and those that ventured up tended to amble back into position. This was costly and at half time we were 3-1 down. 2nd half our shape was a little better but the commitment and effort was below requirement. Josh continued to battle hard and deserved the 2 goals he secured. Man of the match Alex Richardson for dogged determination and effort despite playing out of position at right back. Full time - 2-5 in favour of Norman.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Daniel Field, Josh Wilcox, Alfie Smuith, Janis Reintjes, Adam Burton, Alex Richardson, Ben Annis, Henry Allanson

October 25th          Attleborough      3      Hethersett    1

A good first half saw Hethersett weather the pressure from Attleborough with good defensive and midfield work. Hethersett chances were few though and it was probably a surprise when Alfie found himself 1 on 1 with the opposition keeper; an excellent finish gave Hethersett the advantage at half time. 2nd half and Hethersett discipline and resolve evaporated. Poor marking, passing and tackling undid all the good work and Attleborough won the game and we can only blame ourselves for this capitulation.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Daniel Field, Josh Wilcox, Alfie Smith, Oliver Bell, Jack Gorbutt, Alex Richardson, Liam Finch, Stuart Dix

November 8th          Hellesdon        3      Hethersett    7

The 1st half saw Hethersett have a good deal of possession but some missed opportunities in front of goal. Some poor midfield work saw a breakaway attack from Hellesdon result in the first goal. This was quickly followed by further lapses and poor defensive marking allowing a 2nd goal. All credit to Hethersett who still tried to play good football; just before half time this paid off with an excellent strike from Josh to keep the game alive at that stage. Second half saw a resurgent Hethersett really up their game with good passing moves and a strong desire to win the ball back. Two goals were scored in quick succession to give Hethersett the lead. Hellesdon kept battling and carved their way back to make it 3-3. After that Hethersett gained full control of the game with some excellent passing moves and intelligent football. Ultimately the 7-3 result was a fair reflection of Hethersett's 2nd half dominance.

Team - Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Adam Burton, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Ben Annis, Alex Richardson, Liam Finch, Stuart Dix, Henry Allanson, Jack Gorbutt

November 15th          Hethersett     4     Horsford    3

A good competitive game by both teams. Hethersett started slowly and were quickly punished by 2 goals from Horsford. Galvanised HAFC started to control more of the game with good quick passing. This paid off with an excellent goal by Josh followed by a determined individual effort by Ben. HT 2-2. 2nd half saw an early set back for HAFC who lost the ball needlessly in midfield; a deflected effort saw Horsford take the lead again off the goalpost. HAFC kept battling and an unfortunate error by the Horsford keeper allowed Stuart to steal in and slot the ball home. The game remained a tense affair but HAFC took the lead for the first and ultimately telling time through a calm chip over the keeper from Josh. A nail biting last 10 minutes or so saw both teams creating chances but unable to convert. Not a game for the faint hearted!!

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Adam Burton, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Ben Annis, Alex Richardson, Liam Finch, Stuart Dix, Alfie Smith

November 22nd      Hethersett     2    North Walsham   14

Straight back down to Earth!! Despite taking the lead Hethersett seemed to be half the team of the last 2 weeks. Second to the ball and hesitant when in possession made this a woeful home performance. They say that football is a 'funny old game' - i'm afraid this wasn’t amusing! The only player to rise to the occasion was Josh who was rewarded with a late 2nd half token goal. Credit to North Walsham who played some good football and were streets ahead of Hethersett.

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Ben Annis, Adam Burton, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Alfie Smith, Alex Richardson, Liam Finch, Stuart Dix, Henry Allanson

November 29th     Hethersett    5    Thorpe   0

Hethersett bounced back with a fine display of solid defence, creative midfield and strong attack that saw them open up a 3-0 half time lead. Janis Reintjes hit a hat-trick and two more goals after the break gave them a very solid 5-0 win.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Adam Burton, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjas, Oliver Bell, Ben Annis, Alex Richardson, Liam Finch, Shane Reynolds, Stuart Dix

December 13th     Spixworth     3    Hethersett    3

A good game where HAFC faced strong opposition who played the ball around well. The game flowed well with both teams striving for dominance. Spixworth deservedly took the lead but Hethersett kept battling away, no more so than Josh who chased everything down. Josh eventually broke through and equalised. This seemed to galvanise Spixworth who put Hethersett under great pressure. This finally told with two goals in relatively quick succession: 3-1 to Spixworth. Hethersett then committed more players forward and Josh's second was an excellent cool finish with a perfectly placed lob over the advancing keeper. The final few minutes were so tense with Spixworth trying to hold onto their lead. Nevertheless Hethersett continued to push forward and were rewarded with a dramatic equaliser from Josh just 2 minutes from time. Phew!!

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Adam Bunton, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Ben Annis, Alex Richardson, Liam Finch, Shane Reynolds, Stephen Salahi, Ambrose Wilkerson.

January 17th      Hethersett      2    Diss   5

A difficult tie as only 11 players available and early on Adam B sustained a back injury; this meant the shape of the team had to be changed and confidence seemed to drain from the players. indecision compounded the problem and it was only heroics from goalie Dec that kept Hethersett in the game. Dec even pulled off a terrific penalty save before the end of the half. Nevertheless the pressure was bound to tell and poor defending allowed Diss to gain a 2 goal advantage by half time.

2nd half Hethersett did start well but further defensive errors gave 3 quick goals and the game was out of sight. To their credit Hethersett did start to cause Diss some problems and eventually bagged 2 goals that gave some respectability to the result.

TEAM: Declan Leigh, Adam Cooney, Luke House, Adam Burton, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Ben Annis. Stephen Salah. Liam Finch, Stuart Dix

January 24th        Norman     7     Hethersett   3

The 1st 30 minutes proved disastrous for HAFC. A host of defensive errors allowed Norman to romp into a 5-0 lead. Changes in formation brought some stability and HAFC created a number of good chances. An excellent header from a corner and a converted penalty, both by Josh gave a little respectability at HT. 2nd half saw the continued defensive malaise that really undermined the HAFC performance. Again, towards the last 10 minutes or so HAFC began to move the ball with more purpose and an excellent consolation goal from Stuart was the result. Unfortunately too little too late - a game to forget !!

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Burton, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Alex Richardson, Stephen Salahi, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson, Stuart Dix, Adam Cooney

February 14th             Hethersett      2     Hellesdon    5

Hellesdon proved to be a physical, competitive team that intimidated Hethersett. We were unable to create significant chances and relied upon goalie Dec to keep our opponents at bay. Nevertheless at half time we found ourselves 2-1 down (an individual goal by Janis keeping us in the tie at that point). 2nd half we were more creative but our continual problem with indecision in defence allowed Hellesdon to romp home. A consolation goal by Stephen one of only a few bright moments for us.

Team - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Cooney, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Stuart Dix, Stephen Salahi, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson, Adam Burton.

March 21st                      Watton     3     Hethersett   0

A disappointing result - a lack-lustre performance allowed Watton to gain confidence, taking the lead before half time. 2nd half we pushed on but had no cutting edge; 2 break away goals be Watton secured their well deserved victory

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Cooney, Josh Wilcox,Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Stuart Dix, Stephen Sahali, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson, Adam Burton

March 28th              Hethersett     5    Attleborough    3

Difficult conditions with a swirling wind and hard pitch meaning both teams needed to concentrate to keep control of the ball. Hethersett took an early lead with a free kick by Josh from just outside the penalty area; Josh kept the ball low and wide to give the keeper little chance. The game became a midfield battle because of the wind etc but clinical finishing by Josh gave the home team a 2 goal cushion. Attleborough had their chances but Declan remained solid in goal. A 3rd goal came from further Hethersett pressure forcing an unfortunate opponent to play the ball into his own net. Just before 1/2 time Hethersett went to sleep at the back allowing Attleborough to sneak a soft goal and keep their interests alive. HT 3-1. Almost from the 2nd half kick off Declan launched a penetrating drop kick that bounced into the area with Josh (man of the match) there to steer the ball home. A 5th goal came from a fantastic free kick just inside the Attleborough half. Luke used the wind to great advantage to smack the ball high and wide of the opposition keeper. Attleborough managed 2 goals in reply towards the end of the match.

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Cooney, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Stuart Dix, Stephen Salahi, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson, Adam Burton

April 18th              Hethersett      1     Costessey     2

Competetive match throughout in hot conditios. Costessy took the lead but Hethersett battled hard and were rewarded a penalty that Joshua drilled home. HT 1-1. 2nd half both teams continued to play good football but Hethersett did start to tire. Costessey took a decisive lead but Hethersett never gave up and Ambrose was ver unfortunate to see an excellent effort rebound off the post

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Cooney, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Stuart Dix, Stepehn Salahi, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson.

April 21st                       Hethersett   1      Wymondham     6

What a difference a few days make! Despite the same starting line up Hethersett were a different team in terms of attitude, commitment and communication, all of which were very poor. Within 10 minutes or so Hethersett had gifted 2 goals with very poor defensive and midfield work. As the 2nd half progressed Wymondham played with confidence, passed the ball around well and dominated in all areas. Hethersett had no answer to this and the only goal they scored was from a goalkeeper error and not from a creative piece of football.

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Cooney, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Stuart Dix, Stepehn Salahi, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson, Henry Allanson

May 2nd                        Horsford        2      Hethersett     2

Satisfaction and frustration in equal measures - the commitment and effort could not be faulted and i'm very proud of that response to the previous matches disappointments. The frustration stems from lack of players with only the bare 11 available. Nevertheless it was a good game with 2 fairly evenly matched sides. The game ignited in the 2nd half when HAFC took the lead through Josh - some excellent work from Oly allowed Josh a simple tap in. Oly got his just desserts when he then out sprinted a Horsford defender to calmy round the keeper and slot the ball into the net.

This is where the frustration started; 2 players were suffering from minor injuries and had to soldier on - allowing Horsford to gain more control of the game. The invetiable break through for them further gave further inspiration and in the last couple of minutes they managed to secure the equaliser. Never mind, a very resolute performance and shows significant progress as the season has unwound.

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Cooney, Josh Wilcox, Janis Reintjes, Oliver Bell, Stuart Dix, Stephen Salahi, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson.

May 16th                           Thorpe        13      Hethersett   1

Definitely an end of season feel to this one! A depleted squad but lack of resolve all round made this a game to forget. The only ray of light on a dark day was a superb individual effort by Ambrose.

TEAM - Declan Leigh, Ben Annis, Luke House, Adam Cooney, Henry Allanson, Joe Nicholson, Oliver Bell, Stuart Dix, Stephen Salahi, Liam Finch, Ambrose Wilkerson
