2011/2012 Under-16 Girls - Norfolk Girls League
September 17th Hethersett 1 Norwich City 3
Girl of the Game (as voted by the opposition): Holly Jary
TEAM : Holly Jary, Connie Canning, Beth Wagstaff, Beth Evans, Phebe Wells, Ella Stephenson, Sophie Cooke, Lisa Miners, Adelaide Mott, Sophie Brown, Chloe Hoffman, Sophie Rock, Megan Smith, Elle Gedge.
HAFC kicked off the new season with 5 new players...Welcome to Holly, Sophie, Chloe, Megan and Elle !
Despite the new full sized pitch, the move to 11-a-side pitch and integrating the new girls, Hethersett gave a good account of themselves and were unlucky to fall behind after a controversial free kick found the back of the net on 21 minutes. HAFC were level however within 10 minutes after good work from Cookie, then Sophie B, when Lisa lifted her shot high into the net. 1 - 1
Half time came too soon for the home side , as they took control of the game with some flowing moves creating several chances. The second half remained tight, Hollie and her defence standing firm, the midfield battling hard and the forwards creating chances that on another day would have been taken. Norwich took the lead after a god strike from Jess in the last 10 minutes and Hethersett changed to a 3 / 5 / 2 formation in search of the equaliser. They created 3 more good chances but sadly failed to capitalise and Norwich scored a flattering 3rd with a couple of minutes remaining.
A very encouraging performance however, where the girls showed they are going to be more than a match for their old rivals this season! Can't wait!
September 24th Swanton Herons 1 Hethersett 5
Squad : Holly Jary, Connie Canning, Beth Wagstaff, Beth Evans, Elle Gedge, Ella Stephenson, Lisa Miners, Sophie Cooke, Sophie Rock, Sophie Brown, Megan Smith, Rhiannon McKibben, Adelaide Mott, Chloe Hoffman
Girl of the Game (voted by the opposition) : Chloe Hoffman
Match report :
HAFC started well, Lisa playing Ella through in the first minute, shooting at the keeper. Several chances followed... Sophie Brown shot over the bar, Rocky went close from an Adelaide corner and Cookie shot at the keeper from 5 yards.
Beth W, Connie, Beth E, Elle and Rhiannon held tight at the back, Holly commanding in goal and Herons rarely got an opportunity. HAFC scored on 25 minutes, a lovely move - Beth W to Chloe, on to Rocky who stroked the ball over the keeper from 15 yards. Megan, Ella, Lisa and Cookie all laid on further chances before half time.
Herons scored early in the second half from a narrow angle, 1 - 1, but this proved the catalyst to a display of passing football from Hethersett. Chloe scored inside the far post from an Adelaide corner and 12 minutes later got her second - a Cookie throw to Megan who put a long ball to Chloe - finishing crisply. 1 - 3.
The fourth goal, Cookie passed to Rockie who ran 15 yards and shot from the right with Sophie Brown picking up to tap in from 3 yards. Finally Chloe played a brilliant ball to Rocky who finished competently, her 2nd. A great second half performance.

Girl of the game (voted by the opposition) - Megan Smith.
Match Report :
Hethersett dominated the first half with good passing football but lacking the clinical edge to turn play into goals. The only goal came from Ella pouncing on a Chloe shot. 1 - 0.
Second half, the girls did exactly what they had agreed at half time team talk, creating width, moving / passing into space, and more shots. The midfielders took control with great distribution to the forwards. The forwards and wingers ran RR ragged up front and the defence held firm. Holly made a good save early on, also kicking superbly creating several attacking moves. Ella's second goal came from a long shot / cross from the left deflecting off a defender. Soon after, RR keeper had to Parry an Ella shot, only for Sophie B to head in from close range (3 - 0). No.4, an excellent through ball from Lisa to Rocky who stroked home, then grabbing her second minutes later following good work from Sophie B. Ella grabbed her hatrick on the goalline from a deep Chloe cross and in an overwhelming finish Chloe claimed her own goal receiving a long kick from Hol, running from the half way line to beat the keeper with the outside of her foot 7 - 0.
The final goal of an emphatic victory started with Cookie winning the ball, to Lisa, to Brownie and Rocky slotting between the keepers legs summing up a great team perfomance.

Squad - Holly Jary, Connie Canning, Phebe Wells, Beth Wagstaff, Beth Evans, Sophie Cooke, Erica Hall, Megan Smith, Rhiannon McKibben, Lisa Miners, Ella Stephenson, Sophie Rock, Catherine Burton, Adelaide Mott.
Girl of the Game (voted by opposition) - Lisa Miners
Special recognition from her colleagues - Catherine Burton
Hethersett got off to the best possible start after 5 minutes when Cookie threaded a ball to Lisa, beating 2 defenders in the area to knock back to Rocky who slotted the ball home 1 -0.
The away side enjoyed the majority of the play first half, Cookie/Megan/Lisa controlling midfield and Lisa particularly playing some measured through balls to the forward line. Ella, Adelaide and Rocky tirelessly caused problems wide and up front and only some stout defending by the home side kept the scoreline down. At the back Beth E, Beth W, Connie and Catherine defended with discipline and Phebe completely marked Aylsham's key striker out of the game. Holly controlled her area impeccably and smothered every long ball Aylsham played through. The away side got their deserved second near half time where Rocky lobbed the keeper who could only palm it into the top of the net.
Second half started with Holly saving well and low to her right. Erica then went close turning and shooting just wide, followed by Ella doing the same. Second half was much like the first, Rhiannon coming on, and HAFC controlling with the odd Aylsham breakaway mopped up by Holly and her defence. The final goal came after Cookie won the ball in the middle and laid it wide to Lisa, who ran forwards with pace and crossed to Rocky who scored, with Ella causing problems on the line...Rocky's hatrick. 3 - 0 and a competent performance from every single player!
November 26th Hethersett 0 Aylsham 1
TEAM - Hollie Jary, Connie Canning, Phebe Wells, Beth Evans, Beth Wagstaff, Megan Smith, Sophie Cooke, Sophie Brown, Sophie Rock, Adelaide Mott, Rhiannon McKibben, Erica Hall, Lisa Miners.
A hard fought and very even game where the home side never really found their normal rythm. Neither side created any chances in the first 8 minutes and then Hethersett enjoyed the majority of the possession, with Aylsham defending strongly and therefore HAFC struggling to carve out chances. Sophie Brown stood out, several good runs and the closest Hethersett came to a goal was when Rocky shot just wide after 15 minutes. The defence held strong, Hollie controlling her area well, which meant Aylsham had very little to reflect on at half time.
The second half continued in similar vein, although Aylsham came on stronger, and showed a very disciplined approach, perhaps wanting the victory more then Hethersett. With the home side playing too deep for much of the half Aylsham enjoyed more possession and chances with the winning goal coming in the last minute, almost last kick, leaving the Hethersett girls gutted. I think we all know we could've done better today...a great opportunity to put things right next week against our old rivals ... bags of attitude required!
December 3rd Norwich City Greens 4 Hethersett 2
Girl of the Game (voted by the opposition) : Sophie Brown
Squad : Hollie Jary, Connie Canning, Beth Evans, Beth Wagstaff, Phebe Wells, Catherine Burton, Ella Stephenson, Chloe Hoffman, Lisa Miners, Sophie Cooke, Sophie Brown, Sophie Rock, Adelaide Mott, Rhiannon McKibben.
A pulsating start with Sophie Brown scoring from a great Chloe Hoffman cross to put HAFC 1 up and Norwich instantly replying through a lobbed shot 1 - 1 after 3 minutes! The away side then put in an excellent first half display, creating the majority of chances the best, a long range shot from Chloe just over.
Second half started with a Sophie Brown long range shot just over, and Ella shooting just wide. Holly Jary made two first class saves as Norwich mounted a challenge. Following a defensive slip up Norwich went 2 1 up but the away side continued to play their football. Norwich however scored a third, HAFC then allowing heads to drop for 15 minutes meaning Norwich dominated, pouncing on a second defensive error 4 - 1. The last 10 minutes were Hethersett's culminating in a goal from a Chloe pass to Sophie Brown who crossed the ball for Rocky 4 - 2. What might have been had HAFC kept fully focused for the full 80 mins!
